On July 30th, Governor Baker gave a press conference to provide a COVID-19 update on Pfizer and a Message from the MA Department of Agriculture about Unsolicited Packages Containing Seeds.

Here is the summary.

Pfizer

  • Pfizer manufacturers vaccines and life-saving medicines to treat cancer and hemophilia. Pfizer is developing one of the most advanced COVID-19 vaccines. On Monday, they began the last stage of Phase 3 of an experimental COVID-19 study that seeks to enroll 30,000 people. The Administration is grateful for their team’s leadership and is hopeful for the updates we will receive in the coming months.

  • Pfizer MA has the capacity to manufacture up to 100 million vaccine doses by the end of this year and up to 1.3 billion doses by the end of 2021.

Update on Unsolicited Packages Containing Seeds

  • There are some unsolicited packages from a foreign country containing planting seeds that have been sent to many people in MA and 39 other states nationwide.

  • The US Department of Agriculture and the MA Department of Agriculture has notified the public that these seeds if planted, are thought to be invasive plant species that can be very harmful to our environment.

    • The Administration doesn’t believe they are harmful to humans but are advising that people do not plant them.

    • If you receive one of these packages, please report it to the MA Department of Agriculture. The MA Department of Agriculture has a form on its website for reporting.

      • So far, around 400 packages of these seeds have been reported.
